Good or Not? Multiple Batteries in Paralleled

0 admin 2024-06-13 16:46:53

Many customers tend to choose to have several smaller capacity of the batteries in parallel, rather than using one battery directly, but is it good or not for multiple batteries in parallel? Today let’s hear the professional opinion from TANFON SOLAR.

There are a few reasons why connecting 4 batteries in parallel can be problematic:

1.Unbalanced battery capacity: Even if the batteries are the same model, due to differences in the manufacturing and usage process, the actual capacity of each battery may vary. This can lead to uneven distribution of current between the batteries, causing some batteries to over-discharge and have reduced lifespan.
2.Inconsistent internal resistance: The internal resistance of the batteries may also differ, leading to imbalanced current distribution, with some batteries taking on a higher load.
3.Uneven charge/discharge efficiency: With the same charging current, the charging efficiency of the batteries may not be consistent, causing some batteries to not be fully charged.
4.Temperature effects: Differences in the operating temperature of the batteries can also affect their performance, leading to uneven current distribution.
5.Asynchronous aging: Even if the initial states were the same, the aging rate of the batteries during use may differ, leading to capacity and internal resistance differences.

To avoid these issues, it is better to use a series connection or add protection circuits to each battery when connecting them in parallel. This can better balance the battery load and extend the overall lifespan.
