According to Vanguard, a Nigerian newspaper, former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, stated in an interview with Sunday Politics that President Buhari has acknowledged the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on the Nigerian people and is determined to take immediate action to address the issue.
On Sunday, the federal government and labor congress discussed the issue and proposed that the additional cost of living resulting from the increase in fuel prices could be mitigated by raising wages. The removal of fuel subsidies could save Nigeria approximately 7 trillion Naira, from which the federal government could allocate a portion to be redistributed among the three tiers of government to ensure that each level has sufficient capacity to increase wages.
Oshiomhole stated that the impact of removing fuel subsidies is not a problem that can be solved over time; it has already caused many negative effects and must be addressed immediately. He believes that the meeting was productive, and the federal government will consider the proposal put forward by the labor congress and respond on Tuesday.
